The Secret Knots’ process involves more withdrawing of ideas than i’d like to. I’m steadily pushing forward a new comic now after a couple of false beginnings with dismissed stories, convoluted mysteries or awkward artifacts, not ready yet to be put in comic form. The sketches you see here are part of the skeleton of the next comic, a story about a mythical stage play I expect to finish drawing very soon.
I came up with the idea for a theater play-related story while watching an anime series with a long name: Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, a story of two students of a specific form of performatic entertainment called Rakugo. It’s a very beautiful and skillfully told story. My own story ended up having nothing to do with traditional Japanese theater, but it was never the intent. It’s more of a new entry in the list of non existent works of fiction often featured in the Secret Knots comics.
Thanks for your support!
