Edit: thanks to Reddit user garlic_lollipop who pointed out that the comic was missing the last panel! It's fixed now.

New comic – Boarding school part 5

Part 5 and final, for now. I hope you enjoyed it.

There is, at least for now in my projections and plans, a larger arc for this story, that explores the ‘how’s and ‘why’s of the school at the confines of space and time. In that bigger structure, this single day in the school life of Dan works more as a prologue. But first, I feel that I need to proof-test that plot on paper -so to speak, particularly in terms of format. In my experience, serial online narratives work in a different way and make it harder to get new readers and subscribers. On the other hand, I can see clearly a couple of stories ahead, episodes that cover more ground of this world through the eyes of other characters, which I’d like to tell in some way or other.

So i’m working on a short, unrelated comic, while I figure that out. I think it’s something very special and it presents a specific challenge, a trick I’ve never tried before. I’m looking forward to share it.

New comic – Boarding school part 3 and Live chat announcement

A new installment and we’re coming close to the end. I hope you like it!

Let me tell you about something that’s been on my mind for some time.

Working on the professors portraits I was happily surprised on the details that some of you put into the characters, or the stories behind it. There were all kinds of interesting things about some of your jobs or projects, and the notion that you should really get to meet each other some day was the a) part of my idea. The b) part was my local experience in an online book club about some of my comics, something very cool I was invited to during this year. I decided I could do something alike in terms of format with Patreon subscribers, and here we are.

So, my idea is to make a live Q/A / chat group / online gathering, using the same tool I tried for the book club, a video platform called Zoom which seemed really easy and intuitive to me. It allows for many people to video chat and gives you the option to turn off your video if you feel like, and use an open or private chat. It works with a simple link I’ll send to you, which downloads the app if you don’t have it installed at the time.

I’m proposing Saturday, January 4. I still have to figure out the ideal time of the day for it.  Even if a small amount of subscribers get on board I think it will be very cool. What do you think? Would some of you be interested?

New comic – Boarding School – part 3

This one goes a little back to the pdf version I attached in Patreon before, but I think it’s easier to resume the story that way. 

I gave this comic a push forward these days and now it’s finished, except for some formatting issues and some sentences I keep changing around. So I’ll be posting the rest weekly, I think. Two parts left. And time enough for me to think if that will be an “end of the episode” or if that’s it with this world, for the time being. I see potential for other stories in the boarding school and I’m giving some head space to those ideas. At the very least I can imagine some very intriguing possibilities with characters that appear briefly in this one. Those plant-AI people…

I’m still sending out cultist portraits. I appreciate your patience with yours, if it’s not done yet!

Teachers gallery and new open call for portraits

The Boarding School at the end of time recognizes all these distinguished scholars and professors for their efforts in educating young gentlemen in various matters concerning all time and space(s)

 In particular, those committed to specific, rigorous courses that deal with subjects yet to be developed by many of the sentient races, in their limited time span on this universe 

As challenging as it turned out to be, this was very exciting to do. Some of you really fleshed out your characters with cool details and variations, or told me interesting real life facts about you that had to do in some way with this game. I loved every bit of it.

Please feel free (and remember) to adjust your pledges as you wish. The next drawing treat is open for everybody, but I’ll add an option for customization for those in the +10 tier.

I really want to make a quick call for spooky Halloween drawings, as is traditional in my Patreon. Nevertheless, due to different circumstances it’s only now that I could open the call and I can’t guarantee all the drawings will be done by October 31. But you’ll still be able to get a spooky portrait over the next days, and honestly, in my mind is halloween pretty much all year round. I’m trying to keep it fast and simple. So, here’s the deal:

Yet, following cryptic messages in their dreams, the cult from all over the world gathers to help lift the veil that surround us: we were sleeping and it’s time to wake! 

 

The cultist drawing is OPEN FOR ALL TIERS. The option for customization in the +10 tier allows for a change of the star sign for another one, a change of scenery, a hood or weird/mystic hat, specific symbols on the stones or whatever makes sense to you.

Comic update and Drawing Treat

I’m sharing here the first 4 pages of the new comic Boarding School in PDF, full page format. (See attachment)

I posted the first part before, but I didn’t want to show the follow-up out of context. The upcoming Secret Knots web update will include a little further of the story and I’ll be making a Patreon update over the next days with that mobile-ready version too.

And now, a new drawing treat. For those of you who are new to this patreon, I make quick portraits of patrons every few months. I have to be fast with this one because october / halloween is coming and as some of you know, that involves an all-tiers drawing call for spooky portraits. 

This time I’m giving away little portraits of you as teachers in this Boarding School at the End of Time. In the comic we already met Miss Maia*, the boys’ Hyper History teacher, but there are other interesting courses in this mysterious space institution.

Rules are:

This drawing treat is open for +3 Patreon tiers

$3 patrons: 

All portraits will be vaguely inspired by 1910’s fashion (which is my reference for many things at this school, as we will see later in the dossier) and will feature a bit of outer space in the background. It will be a generic, if dignified rendering of your teacher character.

$10 patrons:

This unlocks the following options:

You get to be the teacher of a specific subject, referenced by subtle signs in your character and a drawn plaque. Available subjects are:

  • Hyperdimensional Geometry

  • Cosmology

  • Non-terrestrial languages

  • Alien sports

  • Plant computing (still undecided if this is the proper name, but as you’ll see in the comic, different plants work as digital interfaces)

  • Your own invented subject. Keep in mind this institution imparts knowledge from different eras and places of this universe.

  • OR, alternately, you can opt for the Neo-Elizabethan look as seen in the comic.
