I hope you are well, and having a nice last week of the year. 

Here’s an update for the comic in progress, a story that’s still on the darker ground where it starts, but I promise it gets sunnier later.

Now that I see it here, I think that last sentence will become “refrain” instead of “restrain himself”, but this is the kind of edits that we’ll see along the way.

This is the first portion of a new comic, called for now “New works of Basil Hallwart”. It’s a story that comes from The Portrait of Dorian Gray, although it strays away from its origin as time in the tale passes by. I’d say this first page is like 20% of the full story.

These are some sketches, and panels discarded while I was searching for a suitable style for the comic. I’ve been trying different things to get the tone right, specially with the text layout and character design. I had in mind a particular way of linking text to pictures in this case, which may be a step closer to the reading of an illustrated tale.

I hope it looks interesting so far!

The traditional October Patreon portraits call is here at last!

If you are new to my Patreon: every October, I make spooky themed portraits of all patrons who ask for one. Last year I even made a comic with them, when the theme was Gothic.

This time, the theme is Ghosts!, as teased in this short comic. I chose some fun archetypes to give you ideas, and asked for suggestions on Discord to complete the set. In the end, I left the ones that seemed suitable for recognizable  portraits. I intend to use painted backgrounds, like the woods in the comic.

These are the character classes, I hope you like them!:

The October portrait game is open to ALL TIERS of patrons who are already subscribed (and Tiers 3+ for new ones that arrive after this post is made public).

Please note: In order to avoid assumptions, and the conventions of the more gendered examples above, I’ll ask you to use the following template:

I’ll ask for (character class), (variant, if there’s one), pronouns (pronouns). Add notes if you wish.

Examples:

• I’d like the MANSION HAUNTER with the CANDELABRA. Pronouns: He/Him. Can he have a mustache?

• Character class: PIRATE GHOST. Pronouns: They/Them.

• SLENDER PERSON. Pronouns: She/Her. Note: I’d like her hair to be short/long/no hair, etc.

Beyond this basic set, this spectral challenge comes with special customizations available for upper tiers.

3+ Birds Opera Aficionado: 

• Can ask for green “night shot camera” effect on their portrait

10+ Earthquake Critic:

• Can ask for additional ghost (partner, friend, etc)

• or Ghost animal companion (from real reference, or not)

• Or add an item (such as a bloody axe, an amulet, chains, a book) or an extra piece of clothing (a veil, a hat, a specific referenced attire)

• AND ask for the aforementioned night shot effect

As usual, feel free to edit your pledge just for this month if you want these customizations for your ghost.
